About Promuco

low res originalsSoon after its founding in Thorne, Yorkshire, UK in 1964, the Professional Music Company (ProMuCo) started providing drum hardware and sticks to musicians across the country.

After a short while, the drumming legend Buddy Rich gave his seal of approval to the company’s drumsticks and helped the brand break into the huge American market.

John Bonham 1975Promuco soon attracted the attention of many pioneering drummers such as Led Zeppelin’s John Bonham, who required sticks tough enough to withstand his famous hard hitting style. Bonham soon started regularly using Promuco sticks and affectionately named them his ‘trees’. These original Promuco John Bonham drumsticks occasionally find themselves up for auction, selling for in excess of $1000 per pair! There is even a set on display at Biloxi’s Hard Rock Cafébiloxi.

During the 1970s and early 80s, Promuco sticks were chosen by many other top artists too including 10CC, Def Leppard, John Bradbury of The Specials, Jet Black of the Stranglers, Emerson, Lake & Palmer and Phil Collins.

Throughout this period, Promuco sticks were distributed in the UK by musical instrument specialists, Barnes & Mullins. So it is fitting that after a long period of rest, the Promuco brand is re-born by the same people who supplied them during the brand’s heyday.

Staying true to the qualities that made Promuco great in the past, the new Promuco drumsticks are made from high quality and durable American Hickory, Oak and Rock Maple woods. So whether hard rock or jazz is your thing, Promuco has the stick for you.
